Biosphere reserve Mittelelbe

The Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve is one of the oldest biosphere reserves in Germany. The Elbe, the third largest river in Germany, stands here as a meandering band in the center of the biosphere reserve. Natural river courses in the middle of regularly flooded, fertile floodplains have become rare in Central Europe. This can be experienced here on the Elbe, where the last connected alluvial forest complexes in Central Europe extend.
